{"id":207413,"date":"2023-06-06T10:13:14","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T14:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/mathematics-education-phd\/?p=207413"},"modified":"2024-08-14T10:06:55","modified_gmt":"2024-08-14T14:06:55","slug":"university-represented-at-njamte-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/mathematics-education-phd\/2023\/06\/06\/university-represented-at-njamte-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"University Represented at NJAMTE Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two of our Mathematics Education PhD students, Christa Mawn and Frank Forte, as well as recent PhD graduate Dr. Victoria Bonaccorso and Mathematics faculty <a href=\"\/~greensteins\">Dr. Steven Greenstein<\/a>, all recently presented at the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.njamte.org\/news-and-events\/annual-conference-2023\" target=\"_blank\">New Jersey Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (NJAMTE) annual conference<\/a> on June 2 at The College of New Jersey. The conference was organized, in part, by NJAMTE president and MSU Mathematics Department faculty <a href=\"\/~panorkoun\">Dr. Nicole Panorkou<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Christa Mawn, who is a doctoral candidate and Manville School District STEAM Supervisor, presented a session on catalyzing curricular changes in the post-pandemic era. Christa\u2019s session discussed the need and reasoning behind Manville High School\u2019s change in Algebra II programming, the process of making the change, and anticipated results. Christa then invited and facilitated suggestions and critiques from the conference attendees.<br \/>\n<div class=\"prpl-row\"><div class=\"prpl-column one-fourth\"><\/div><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/mathematics-education-phd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/138\/2023\/06\/mawn-njamte-presentation.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/mathematics-education-phd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/138\/2023\/06\/mawn-njamte-presentation.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"Christa Mawn presenting at NJAMTE\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Christa Mawn presenting at NJAMTE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Frank Forte, who is a doctoral candidate and faculty member at Raritan Valley Community College, served on a panel discussion about the state-wide teacher shortage issue. The panel also consisted of a faculty member from the County College of Morris (Joshua Frye), the Executive Director for the Center for Future Educators at The College of New Jersey (Jeanne DelColle), and the Superintendent of Hamilton Township School District (Scott Rocco). The panel discussed questions submitted by conference participants, including issues about increasing teacher incentives and updating teacher preparation programs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-row\"><div class=\"prpl-column one-fourth\"><\/div><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/mathematics-education-phd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/138\/2023\/06\/njamte-panel.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/mathematics-education-phd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/138\/2023\/06\/njamte-panel.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"Frank Forte serving on a panel at NJAMTE\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Frank Forte serving on a panel at NJAMTE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Drs.
