Middle States Evaluation Team Chair Visit

Montclair State University is now in its third and final year of preparations for Middle States accreditation. As part of this process, Dr. Tomás Morales, President of California State University, San Bernardino, and Chair of Montclair State’s Middle States Evaluation Team will be on campus Friday, November 18, 2016 in preparation for the Self-Study Team visit in April 2017.

The purpose of the Self-Study is to be sure that Montclair State University stays focused on students, recognizes its strengths, and identifies areas for improvement. This is done by reviewing and assessing data to ensure that the university fulfills its mission and deploys its resources in appropriate ways.

Dr. Morales will meet with the leadership of the University and members of the community that have been involved in the preparation of the self-study report, as well as some faculty and students. The visit will provide invaluable feedback to the institution as it finalizes its report and arrangements for the team visit in spring 2017.

The self-study is a multi-stage, 3-year process that involves discussion, critical inquiry, and report preparation that carefully documents the institution’s progress over time. This process aims to engage the entire campus community and other constituencies as they provide input and offer feedback.

Montclair State University has been participating in a Middle States initiative, the “Collaborative Implementation Project” (CIP) since 2014. We are among a select group of institutions (15 in total) that comprises the first cohort of higher education institutions to engage in the decennial self-study process with the new Middle States standards for accreditation. As we engage in the self-study process using the new standards, we are also participating in the CIP project, carefully documenting the self-study process, providing feedback to the Middle States Commission about the new standards, and ultimately contributing to the ongoing refinement and implementation of the accreditation process.
