Let&#8217;s check out how Chinese is useful to our student, Carly Ortiz, winner of Honorable Mention in Chinese Essay Contest, 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: How is Chinese useful to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A:\u00a0 Chinese has various\u00a0<strong>economic, social and personal benefits<\/strong>. Learning Chinese is economically beneficial to me because it\u00a0<strong>strengthens my character<\/strong>, which in turn\u00a0<strong>intensifies my work ethic<\/strong>. In the U.S., knowing a second language is not only beneficial in becoming a\u00a0<strong>prime applicant when searching for a job<\/strong>, but it also provides me with various ways to\u00a0<strong>appreciate differences between cultures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: What&#8217;s the most unique thing about the Chinese language?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A:\u00a0 The most unique thing I\u2019ve learned about Chinese is\u00a0<strong>how to read and write characters<\/strong>. People find it very\u00a0<strong>entertaining and impressive<\/strong>\u00a0that I not only know another language, but that I can interpret Chinese characters.
