Tutoring is available for conversation practice, to help explain difficult concepts, to read through assignments and to help understand errors in written work, but not to correct or rewrite the work itself. Tutoring is also available for French and other subjects at CAST<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Conversation Hour<\/h3>\n

Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 in the Schmitt 2nd floor atrium on the quad side. With snacks!<\/p>\n

Translation<\/h3>\n

Try your hand at translating a poem (from French into English, Spanish or Haitian Krey\u00f2l) or recording a reading at our \u201cPhares ha\u00eftiens: 19th-Century Haitian Luminaries in Translation\u201d<\/a> repository!<\/p>\n

Free French Books!<\/h3>\n

Check out the \u201clittle library\u201d of free French books in the second floor atrium of Schmitt. Feel free to take books home, to share with friends, or to add your own materials.<\/p>\n

Summer 2024 Scholarships for study abroad. Several through the AATF: https:\/\/frenchteachers.org\/promote-french\/scholarships\/<\/a> and others through the Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie: The Pierre C. Fraley Scholarship\u00a0<\/a> ($3,000) and The Marie Louise Vermeiren Jackson Scholarship<\/a> ($2,500). Deadlines in February.<\/p>\n

Center for Writing Excellence (CWE)<\/a>. Need help with writing term papers or other projects? Need help with English language projects? Make an appointment with the CWE!\u00a0 They provide one-on-one feedback for all students, faculty, staff, and alumni on all types of writing, in any stage of the writing process. Dec. 6 from 5:40 to 6:45pm.<\/strong> Zoom Lecture and Q&A with Matthew Schlecht, PhD of Word Alchemy Translation, Inc.wordalchemytranslation.com.<\/a> Mr. Schlecht specializes in the medical, pharmaceutical, chemical, polymer, and agrochemical fields, and works from Japanese, German, French, Spanish, and Russian into English. In his more than two decades as a linguist, he has developed a clientele of over one hundred direct clients and agencies. Register here<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Jan. 15, 2024. Deadline for applying to the TAPIF<\/a> (English teaching assistant in France) program. Spend a year in France while working as a teaching assistant and sharing your knowledge of American culture!<\/p>\n

Oct. 4, 7-9pm in Montclair, Studio 505. <\/strong>The Montclair branch French Institute Alliance Fran\u00e7aise (FIAF) is partnering with Out Montclair to welcomes renowned Lebanese graphic novelist Joseph Kai for an evening of conversation to celebrate the new English translation of his acclaimed first book, L\u2019Intranquille<\/a> (Casterman, 2021), now released as Restless (Street Noise, 2023). The evening will culminate in a Q&A, book signing, and reception. Wine, and Lebanese appetizers and desserts will be served. The book will be available for purchase.<\/p>\n

Nov. 30 from 4:00 to 5:00pm. Schmitt 204<\/strong>. Participate in the annual Dict\u00e9e des<\/a><\/em><\/strong> Francophones<\/a><\/em> sponsored by the Embassy of France in the United States, in partnership with the American Association of Teachers of French and the Qu\u00e9bec Government Office in Los Angeles. The event is open to all, but will be easiest for students in course above the 200-level. It’s on the theme of sports (2024 Paris Olympics) and includes a virtual presentation by French Canadian Roseline Filion<\/a><\/strong>, a double medalist in diving at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Contact Dr. Emery for the preparatory materials (emerye at montclair.edu). Each participant will receive a certificate from the French Embassy and be entered into a raffle for French prizes.<\/p>\n
