Choreographer Liz Lerman Presents Interactive Workshop - January 29, 2013

World-renowned artist visits campus to deliver workshop on Critical Response Process, a innovative method of providing critical feedback.

Liz Lerman, founder of the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and current artist-in-residence at Harvard University, will lead a 3-hour Critical Response Process (CRP) interactive workshop on January 29, 2013. Lerman is a former MacArthur "Genius Grant" Fellow (2002), and is widely known for her contributions as a choreographer, performer, writer, educator, and speaker around the world and as an active presence here at Montclair State. Lerman appeared with the Dance Exchange Company in March of 2010 in the Matter of Origins performance series-- co-commissioned by Peak Performances and the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland -- and as a contributor to the development of the pilot course Creative Thinking, taught in Summer 2012. She acted as a visiting artist instructor of the Creative Thinking course, and has delivered highly engaging and lauded workshops for faculty and students, including intergenerational dance workshops for the Montclair State theatre and dance department.

Lerman developed the Critical Response Process as an approach to help provide feedback to her students in the arts. It has become a very effective way of providing critical feedback by using a "method that nurtures the development of artistic works-in-progress through a four-step, facilitated dialogue between artists, peers, and audiences. The Process has deepened dialogue between artists and audiences; it has enhanced learning between teachers and students. By extension it has proven valuable for all kinds of creative endeavors, work situations, and collaborative relationships within and beyond the arts, from kindergartens to corporations."  The Research Academy is very proud to offer this opportunity to the Montclair State campus community.
