Honoring John J. Cali


A memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of John J. Cali will be held on Tuesday, May 6, at 4 p.m. at Montclair State University's Alexander Kasser Theater. 

The service will include performances by students from the school of music that bears his name.

Mr. Cali, benefactor and friend to Montclair State, died on February 1, 2014, in California with his wife, Rose, by his side. In 2008, Mr. Cali and his family made a generous gift to Montclair State University which established the John J. Cali School of Music. 

An accomplished civic leader, Mr. Cali received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1996, and he was awarded an honorary degree by Montclair State in 2009.

In lieu of  flowers, the family of John J. Cali requests making a gift to the endowment of the John J. Cali Distinguished Artists-in-Residence Fund. This fund assists Montclair State in providing students enrolled in the John J. Cali School of Music with the opportunity to study with and learn from an impressive roster of  distinguished singers, accomplished musicians and noted stage  performers.
