Global warming and national energy security are two issues of major importance, with oil futures trading above $90 a barrel for the first time on October 25. Scientists at Princeton University have proposed a range of solutions to both problems, including wind, solar, biofuels, and geothermal renewable energy sources. The trip will focus on one of the state's few renewable energy installations at the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA). ACUA maintains the Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm -- the only large wind power facility in New Jersey -- and the second-largest solar power array in the state, as well as a landfill gas-to-electricity plant, biodiesel distribution, and a geothermal heating and cooling plant.
