Kicking off Montclair State’s second century, first-year and transfer students joined President Susan A. Cole, faculty and staff on September 2 to celebrate Red Hawk Day 2008. Continuing the tradition reinstated last year, Red Hawk Day featured a community picnic, convocation, a carnival and workshops for the new students.

Immediately following President Cole’s Opening Day Address to the University community at the Kasser Theater, faculty and staff joined the students—who wore T-shirts with the colors of their college or school—to process to the Student Center Quad for a community picnic.

The First-Year and Transfer Student Convocation at the Amphitheater followed, with entertainment by the Red Hawk Cheerleaders and remarks by President Cole, Milton Fuentes, associate professor of psychology, James Wassel ’73 ’78 M.A., president of the Montclair State University Alumni Association, SGA president Ron Chicken and Michelle Kasper, president of Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Honor Society for First Year Students. Red Hawk Day continued with the Fall Frenzy Carnival at the Student Recreation Center and other activities around the campus.
