Hunt Named to All-America Team

Montclair, NJ (12/29/08) – Senior linebacker Cornell Hunt (North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick) earned a spot on the All-America Team as the organization released its 2008 version prior to the NCAA Division III Stagg Bowl. Hunt was named Honorable Mention as he was one of 100 players named to the team.

Hunt, the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year and Pre-Season All-America choice, was named Second-Team All-East Region by, but still managed to land a spot on the All-America Team.

A three-time First-Team All-NJAC and two-time All-Region selection, Hunt completed his outstanding career this past season he became the first MSU player to record three consecutive tackle since the late Sam Mills (1978-80) as he posted 100 exactly.

In addition, Hunt also registered 4.5 tackles for loss and added a sack, a fumble recovery, seven pass breakups and three interceptions, including a 54-yard return for a touchdown versus Albright in the ECAC South Central Bowl. Hunt, a two-time NJAC Defensive Player of the Week this season and eight times overall, ranked fourth in the conference in tackles and was ninth in passes defended.

He collected 10 or more tackles four times this season, including 18 versus Brockport on September 27 and 16 versus Albright in the season finale. Hunt finished third all-time at Montclair State with 367 tackles and holds the MSU career mark for unassisted tallies with 191.

Hunt is the 10th MSU player to be honored since began selected All-American teams. Place kicker Vin Doffont (2006), running back Ron Lewis (1999) and wide receiver Eric Magrini (2001) were named Honorable Mention. Defensive linemen Carlos Bolanos (2000) and Kevin Kelly (1999), guard Frank Iachetta (2004) and linebacker Ray Meyer (2003) were Third-Team selections. Linebacker Omar Lucas and center Anthony Vitale are the two First-Team picks as the two were chosen in 2001.
