Pflug's Hot Shooting Paces Women's Basketball Over Hunter

New York, NY (2/9/09) – Sophomore forward Jamilee Pflug ( Clark, NJ / Arthur L. Johnson) matched her career high with 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including four three pointers as Montclair State won its fifth straight, downing Hunter College, 82-40 on Wednesday evening.

Junior forward Kisandra Ayanbeku ( Burlington, MA / Randolph) added 16 points and five rebounds as the Red Hawks moved to 16-7 on the season.

MSU led from start to finish as it scored the first five points of the game. Marianne McGovern ( Fair Lawn, NJ / Paramus) sank one from behind the arc and Kara Burnham ( Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) added a layup 71 seconds into the game.

Hunter would get within 15-10 with 12:13 to play before half, however MSU embarked on a 25-9 run to end the half. Pflug had seven points in the spurt, including seven straight points as Montclair took a 40-19 lead into the break.

McGovern finished with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals for MSU, which shot an even 50 percent from the field in both halves and finished 35-of-70 from the field. Brittany Griffin ( Edison, NJ / Edison) collected 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench as Montclair also outrebounded the Hawks, 46-35, which included 16 on the offensive glass.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 14 as they take on Rutgers-Newark for the second time this season. MSU travels to the Golden Dome in Newark, NJ at 5:30 pm as it attempts to maintain its lead in the NJAC North Division. Montclair is currently 9-2 in league play, a half-game ahead of William Paterson.
