Men's Soccer No. 1 in NCAA South Atlantic Regional Ranking

Montclair, NJ (10/21/09) – The Montclair State men’s soccer team is ranked No. 1 in the South Atlantic Region as the NCAA released its first regional rankings for the 2009 season on Wednesday.

MSU, currently 14-0-1 on the season is on top followed by Christopher Newport, York College (PA), Emory University, Roanoke, Virginia Wesleyan and Mary Washington University. Both Montclair and Christopher Newport (13-1-0) have perfect 12-0 marks in region.

The committee ranks 15 percent of the eligible teams in each region and the next regional poll will be announced on Wednesday, October 28.

After spending the last decade as a member of the NCAAs Metro Region, this year Montclair, along with the rest of the New Jersey Athletic Conference squads, were moved into the new South Atlantic Region.

The Red Hawks are also ranked in the latest and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. MSU is No. 4 in the Top 25 and No. 10 by the NSCAA, which has Montclair and Christopher Newport switching places in the South Atlantic region poll.
