Holiday Hours, Closures and Outages

The Montclair State University campus will close at 2pm on Tuesday, December 24, 2002 and will re-open at 8:30am on Thursday, January 2, 2003. The following conditions and exceptions apply.

The main information booth, University Police, Clove Road Apartments, and Russ Hall (resident rooms only) will be open and staffed during the entire period.

The Red Hawk Diner will close at 7pm on December 24 and remain closed on December 25, December 31, and January 1. On all other days during the winter campus closing, the Diner will be open from 9am to 9pm. Access to the library's electronic resources and on-line catalog will be available through the library's homepage

Voicemail messages will be monitored and answered by the Technology Solutions Center (computer helpline x7971) except on December 25 and January 1.

E-mail and Internet access will be available.

Administrative computer systems will NOT be available intermittently to allow for completion of a renovation and electrical upgrade. These include HRS, FRS, SIS, Raiser's Edge, REGGIE, WESS, Blackboard, WebCT, Blake, departmental Novell file/print servers, and all other departmental Web and database servers maintained by Information Technology. While the main MSU Web server will be available during the period, some other Web servers, and therefore services such as the Course Schedule and Course Description databases, will not be available at all times. If you are unable to access a particular Web service at any time during this period, please do try again at another time. Please contact the Webmaster if you are experiencing continual problems at We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Any employee who requires access to his or her office must stop at the main information booth at the Normal Avenue entrance. The officer on duty will call University Police to dispatch an officer to unlock the building and sign in the employee. Upon leaving the building, the employee must notify University Police by calling x5222. Students may have access to buildings only if they are accompanied by a faculty member or administrator who has followed the procedures described above. Please note that most building temperatures will be lowered to 65-68 degrees to conserve energy.

I hope many of you will have the opportunity to get some well-earned rest and relaxation during the campus closing. I especially want to recognize the contributions of our many fine employees in Physical Plant, University Police, and Information Technology who will be working throughout the closing to maintain and improve our campus.
