Montclair State University faculty, staff, and administrators gathered in the Periodicals Reading Room of the Sprague Library on April 27 to recognize the more than 60 members of the University community who have had books published in the past few years. An impressive total of 72 new books by University authors were on display for all to view.

“I think this is a pretty amazing display,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Willard Gingerich as he welcomed the authors and guests. “Of course it’s been more than one year but nevertheless it’s not that large a span of time that you all produced this work. It’s really a testimony to the intellectual horsepower of Montclair State University. Congratulations to you all.”

According to Library Services Dean Judith Lin Hunt, the 72 books on display at the reception represented the work of 66 University authors, editors, and translators from every School and College in the University. Additionally, one of the books was written in French, one in Italian, two in Russian, and two in Spanish, as well as one translation from Arabic, and one from Mandarin.

Gingerich noted that the primary purpose of the event was for everyone to get to know each other and to learn what everyone else was doing in the way of research and writing. “Hopefully, further interdisciplinary and further research activity will grow out of these events and out of these acquaintances,” he said.

All the books by University authors may be checked out at the library, and a brochure with a synopsis of each book (viewable below) is also available.
