Men's Indoor Track and Field Finishes 5th at NJAC Championships


New York, NY (2/20/11) – Sophomore Niyi Adenugba (North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick) recorded three Top 5 finishes while senior Mario Morrison-Bird (West Orange, NJ / West Orange) added two as the Montclair State men’s indoor track and field team finished fifth at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Championships held at The Armory on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Jon Tancer (Montville, NJ / Montville) placed third in the shot put at the Red Hawks recorded 53 points in the meet.

Adenugba finished third in the 55 meter hurdles as he posted a time of 8.30 seconds to earn his way into the finals. He would lower that time to 8.18 seconds to claim third place. Senior Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra), the defending NJAC champion, did not run in the race as he sat out with an injury. Brown currently has the fourth-fastest time in Division III this season.

Adenugba then displayed his versatility as he moved to the field events where he was third in the high jump at 1.93 meters and fifth in the long jump at 6.62 meters.

Morrison-Bird led the 2-3 finish by Montclair in the shot put as he threw 14.81 meters while Tancer posted a mark of 14.58 meters. Dave Helterbran (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) was fifth at 14.10 meters and James Luginsland (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) finished ninth (13.51 meters) to give MSU four athletes in the Top 10.
Morrison-Bird would register a mark of 13.95 meters to finish fourth in the weight throw. Nick DiGiacomo (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills) was eighth with Luginsland coming in ninth in the event.

Terea Hargrove (Springfield, NJ / Jonathan Dayton)
finished sixth in the triple jump at 12.78 meters and also placed ninth in the long jump (6.23 meters).  Hargrove would also anchor the 4x200 meter relay team that placed fourth. John Frank Migliore (Bloomfield, NJ / Bloomfield), James Hamilton and Joshua Reyes (Bayonne, NJ / Bayonne) joined Hargrove on the unit.

Alex Fortoul (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ / Hasbrouck Heights)
finished seventh in the mile run with a time of 5:07.59.

Montclair is scheduled to return to The Amory on Friday, February 25 as they compete in the Armory Collegiate Challenge.
