Mahwah, NJ (5/7/11) – The Montclair State men’s outdoor
track and field team, on the strength of its throwers, finished fourth
at the 2011 New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field
Championships held at Ramapo College on Saturday.
Senior Joseph Gingerelli (Wood-Ridge, NJ / Wood-Ridge) finished first in the javelin while classmate Mario Morrison-Bird (West Orange, NJ / West Orange) placed second in the hammer throw, shot put and discus.
Gingerelli improved his standing on the NCAA provisional qualifying
list as he claimed the conference championship with a throw of 61.52
meters. He went from 16th to 10th on the provisional list giving
himself a better chance to be included among the field for this month’s
NCAA Division III Championships which will be held at Ohio Wesleyan
University in Delaware, OH.
Meanwhile Morrison-Bird excelled at three different throws. He posted a
distance of 51.70 meters in the hammer throw and then had a toss of
45.39 meters in the discus. Morrison-Bird closed out his afternoon by
posting a distance of 15.16 meters in the shot put. Jon Tancer (Montville, NJ / Montville) was fifth in the shot put at 13.61 meters.
Sophomore Niyi Adenugba (North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick) finished
third in the 110 hurdles as he posted a time of 16.48 seconds. He also
finished fourth in the long jump at 6.78 meters.
