Swimming and Diving Falls to TCNJ in Home Opener


Montclair, NJ (11/4/11) – Senior Kelly Abner (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) won a pair of events while Tommy Driesback (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) captured both diving events as Montclair State fell to perennial NJAC power The College of New Jersey at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Friday evening.

The MSU men lost to the Lions (164-108) while the while the women’s dropped a 175-110 decision as both teams fell to 0-2 overall, 0-1 in the NJAC.

Abner won the 1000 freestyle as she clocked in with a time of 11:33.19 before later coming back to captured the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:17.97. Junior Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) took first place in the 100 breaststroke recording a winning time of 1:10.56.

Driesback posted a winning score of 124.35 points to take the one-meter diving event. He later registered a final score of 159.75 points to take top honors in the three-meter. Michael Volski (Edison, NJ / Edison) was a winner in the 50 freestyle with a time of 29.09 with Chris Lee (Morris Plains, NJ / Parsippany Hills) giving MSU a sweep of the 100 breaststroke winning with a time of 1:02.88.

The Red Hawks go right back to work on Saturday, November 5 as they host Division II Adelphi University at the Panzer Pool beginning at 1:00 pm.
