Women's Indoor Track and Field Returns to Action at NYC Gotham Cup


New York, NY (1/13/12) – The Montclair State women’s indoor track and field team returned to action on Friday as the Red Hawks competed in the NYC Gotham Cup held at The Armory.

Junior Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) posted a time of 59.35 seconds in the 400 meters and finished 10th overall in the event of Division I, II and III competitors. She placed second overall in her heat as her time was good enough to qualify for the ECAC Championships and currently ranks seventh in the nation. Gearity wasn’t through as she later ran a personal-best in the 60 meter hurdles recording a time of 9.77 seconds.

Junior Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ / Northern Burlington) also qualified for the ECAC Championships as she too recorded a personal best in the 60 hurdles covering the distance in a time of 9.33 seconds which is now the 18th-fastest in the country.

Those two weren’t the only ones to post personal-best marks. Freshman Janee Carr (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway) posted a time of 9.74 seconds in the 60 hurdles while junior Michelle Armando Padavano (Rahway, NJ / Mother Seton) went 3:27.93 in the 1,000 meters.

Freshman Imani Jones (Roselle, NJ / Abraham Clark) won her heat in the 400 meters with a time of 62.06 seconds before coming back to register a time of 8.13 in the 60 meters. Angelina Ollo (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany) ran 2:29.77 in the 800 meters with Nicole Presti (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) collecting a time of 5:58.06 in the mile.  Freshman Tanaya Jones (Newark, NJ / Weequahic) threw 10.11 meters (33’2”) in the shot put.

Montclair’s 4x400 relay team of Jones, Sheneya Murphy (Somerdale, NJ / Collingswood)and Patterson recorded a time of 4:14.34 which included the first 400 event for Murphy.

The Red Hawks return to action next weekend with appearances in both the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College in addition to taking part in the Lehigh University Multi Invite in Bethlehem, PA.
