Men's Indoor Track Places Sixth at CTC Championships


Middletown, CT (2/11/12) – Junior Niyi Adenugba (North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick) finished in the Top 5 in three different events while Montclair State registered 15 Top 10 finishes as the Red Hawks placed sixth at the CTC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Wesleyan University on Saturday.

Senior Jon Tancer (Montville, NJ / Montville) placed second in the shot put while the 4x200 relay squad did the same as MSU totaled 59 points to place sixth in the 18-team field.

Adenugba displayed his versatility as his three finishes came on the track and in the field events. He was second in the long jump with a best leap of 6.52 meters (21-feet, 4 ¾-inches) while finishing fourth in both the high jump (1.88 meters / 6-feet, 2-inches) and 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.77 in the finals.

Tancer recorded a best throw of 14.28 meters (46-feet, 10 ¼-inches) for his second-place finish in the shot put while the 4x200 relay team of Koran McDaniel (Neptune, NJ / Neptune), Eric Gershey (Boonton, NJ / Parsippany Hills), Daniel Woods (Plainfield, NJ / Plainfield) and Ahmier Dupree (Lakewood, NJ / Lakewood) posted a time of 1:34.90 to place second in that event.

Elsewhere in the meet, Jonathan Feigin (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) was fourth in the 500 meters with a time of 1:08.96 with Rodney Copeland (Toms River, NJ / Manchester) placing the same in the 1000 meters at 2:40.29. Dupree placed eighth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.33 seconds reaching the finals with a time of 7.28 during the preliminaries. Ian Poinsett (Salem, NJ / Salem) was eighth and Jeremy Parchment (South Orange, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) 10th in the 400 meters with times of 52.18 and 54.14, respectively.

Rafael Irula (Rockaway, NJ / Morris Hills)
finished seventh in the 1000 meters (2:50.04) with Alex Fortoul (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ / Hasbrouck Heights) placing 13th in the 3000 meters coming in at 10:32.72.

Irula and Copeland teamed with Nicholas Kral (Randolph, NJ / Randolph) and Mark DiGennaro (Wharton, NJ / Morris Hills) for a third-place showing in the 4x800 relay as the quartet ran 8:19.02. The 4x400 relay place sixth as Parchment, Poinsett, Feigin and Gershey clocked in at 3:34.92.

Ruaidhri Walsh (Bloomfield, NJ / Hudson Catholic) was 11th in the weight throw with a best distance of 11.55 meters (37-feet, 10 ¾-inches) as teammate Nick DiGiacomo (Morris Plains, NJ / Parsippany Hills) coming in right behind in 12th at 11.21 meters (36-feet, 9 ½-inches). DiGiacomo finished seventh in the shot put (13.15 meters / 43-feet, 1 ¾-inches) and Emmet Mather (Lake Como, NJ / Manasquan) was 10th in the high jump (1.73 meters / 5-feet, 8-inches).

The Red Hawks are now off until Friday, February 24 when they head to The Armory in New York City for the 2012 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships.
