March 16, 2012 - PA/NJ CRLA Spring Conference at Montclair State University

Montclair State University will be hosting the PA/NJ College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA)  Conference. The PA/NJ CRLA Conference - Spring 2012 will take place on March 16, 2012 at University Hall. This will be an exciting one day event from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm with many professionals, tutors, mentors and faculty from tutoring centers, academic support and learning assistance programs that will meet together to share their best practices, unique ideas and success stories. The theme of the Conference is: "Strategies for Student Success: Designing New Approaches for Engagement."

There will be a continental breakfast that will take place at University Hall, Grand Concourse (1st floor). The breakout sessions will be held throughout the day on the third floor. During our hot lunch/buffet style, we will welcome speeches, interactive discussions, announcements and a keynote speaker, all of which will be held at the Conference Center Ballroom, 7th floor, University Hall. Dr. Jean, the Executive Director of EOF and Academic Development at Montclair State University and the keynote speaker, will be presenting on ”EVERY STUDENT IS AT RISK…Improving Student Learning, Retention, and Satisfaction!“

There will be participants attending from three different states: NJ, PA, and NY.  They are asked to donate school supplies and books such as: pens, pencils, notebooks, erasers, rulers, stickers, index cards, napkins, glue and small Spanish dictionaries. This is a donation initiative that the PA/NJ CRLA has been collaborating with the Montclair State University Network for Educational Renewal and the Rockaway Township School District – “Students and Teachers Achieve Real Success” (S.T.A.R.S.). Donations will go to Birchwood School, Catherine A. Dwyer Elementary School, Katharine D. Malone School, Dennis B. O'Brien School, and Stony Brook School as well as their world language program.

The Conference will cover 20 presentations on the topics related to tutoring a diverse student population and their unique learning needs, assessment, successful practices for student involvement and study strategies, supplemental instruction as a form of out-of-the classroom learning experience, tutor training, tutor tracking, online tutoring, and writing skills.
