{"id":14166,"date":"2015-03-02T16:46:08","date_gmt":"2015-03-02T21:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/news\/article.php?ArticleID=14166"},"modified":"2015-03-02T16:46:08","modified_gmt":"2015-03-02T21:46:08","slug":"14166_u-s-senator-cory-booker-visits-campus-to-talk-with-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2015\/03\/02\/14166_u-s-senator-cory-booker-visits-campus-to-talk-with-students\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Senator Cory Booker Visits Campus to Talk with Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> More than 100 students switched their Friday night plans on February 27th to spend it with United States Senator Cory Booker.&nbsp; The New Jersey senator came to campus to meet with students, hear their ideas and engage in a lively discussion about issues that were particularly relevant and interesting to them.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought the event was awesome,\u201d said junior Justice Studies major Juan Santana. \u201cHe didn\u2019t seem like a senator. He was so down to earth \u2013 just a normal person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event began with President Susan A. Cole welcoming the senator to Montclair State. A Town Hall style meeting immediately followed where Senator Booker spoke for a few minutes about topics such as college affordability and student debt facing today\u2019s students and the younger generation.&nbsp; For the remainder of the evening, Senator Booker answered questions from the students.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents were thoroughly engaged throughout the evening and I believe so was Senator Booker,\u201d says Fatima deCarvahlo, assistant dean for Student Life and director of the University\u2019s Center for Student Involvement. \u201cIt was exciting to see such a diverse set of students at a non-social event on a Friday night<\/p>\n<p>The free event, which began at 8:00 p.m., was scheduled to end at 9:00, but lively discussion continued until close to 10:00 p.m..
