{"id":210869,"date":"2020-03-04T13:30:45","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T18:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/?p=210869"},"modified":"2021-01-19T15:35:09","modified_gmt":"2021-01-19T20:35:09","slug":"orsted-u-s-offshore-wind-announces-partnership-with-montclair-state-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2020\/03\/04\/orsted-u-s-offshore-wind-announces-partnership-with-montclair-state-university\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00d8rsted U.S. Offshore Wind Announces Partnership with Montclair State University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00d8rsted U.S. Offshore Wind will support clean energy research and educational outreach activities at Montclair State University under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, \u00d8rsted\u2019s $200,000 contribution will support the University\u2019s Clean Energy and Sustainability Analytics Center (CESAC) and will aid in the advancement of energy research initiatives, as well as the development of educational events, stakeholder engagement activities and STEM programming for elementary, middle and high school students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMontclair State University has quickly established itself as an innovator relating to the research and assessment of clean and sustainable energy solutions,\u201d said Thomas Brostr\u00f8m, CEO of \u00d8rsted U.S. Offshore Wind. \u201cWe are pleased to partner with them as we continue to make progress with our Ocean Wind project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMontclair State has invested in the development of important programs and research in renewable energy and environmental science,\u201d said Susan A. Cole, president of Montclair State University. \u201cPartnerships with leading corporations in the energy sector, such as \u00d8rsted, provide mutually beneficial synergies and much-needed resources that help us educate students and expand both research and outreach initiatives. Governor Murphy has expressed a vision for a clean energy future for New Jersey, and the University is pleased to be part of the effort to realize that vision. We are very grateful for \u00d8rsted\u2018s support and look forward to working with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CESAC, a public research and technical assistance center, identifies, quantifies and interprets the ramifications of clean energy development and to facilitate energy planning. It provides support for clean energy policies, technologies and practices through research and education programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCESAC engages in collaboration, coordination, and support across the public and private sectors,\u201d says Lora Billings, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. \u201cThese activities produce objective, research-based knowledge on key issues facing New Jersey. They also create valuable learning opportunities for our undergraduate, master&#8217;s and doctoral students, as well as our faculty and research partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPartnerships like this one with \u00d8rsted demonstrate the value of collaboration between the academic community and private industry in identifying environmental and economic solutions related to clean energy,\u201d said CESAC Director Pankaj Lal. \u201c\u00d8rsted\u2019s support will help CESAC contribute to the collective effort to build a sustainable energy economy in New Jersey.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>About \u00d8rsted U.S. Offshore Wind<\/h2>\n<p>\u00d8rsted U.S. Offshore Wind delivers clean, renewable energy along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard. It operates the Block Island Wind Farm, America\u2019s first offshore wind farm, and has been awarded over 2,900 megawatts of capacity through six projects. It is jointly headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island and employs more than 150 people.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8rsted was selected by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities in June 2019 to develop the state\u2019s first offshore wind farm.
