{"id":211725,"date":"2020-05-13T11:25:36","date_gmt":"2020-05-13T15:25:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/?p=211725"},"modified":"2020-05-13T15:45:54","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T19:45:54","slug":"a-look-at-summer-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2020\/05\/13\/a-look-at-summer-online\/","title":{"rendered":"A Look at Summer Online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Summer academic programs at Montclair State University have been adjusted \u2013 and rates reduced \u2013 for pre-college programs and summer classes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Early College Program and Model United Nations will be offered online and provide opportunities for high school students interested in furthering their education during the summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The University\u2019s Summer Sessions, which offer graduate and undergraduate courses, will be offered fully online with tuition discounts, including in-state rates for out-of-state students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For freshmen entering Montclair State\u2019s Class of 2024, the six-week Red Hawk Advantage program will also be offered virtually, providing an opportunity for new students to get a jump-start on their first academic experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rising high school juniors and seniors can enroll in Montclair State courses and earn transferable college credit. Choose from a range of 100- and 200-level classes, including Psychology, Biology and Music. Tuition has been reduced with no fees. For information email Gregory Nasser, assistant director for Early College Programs at <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"mailto:nasserg@montclair.edu\" target=\"_blank\">nasserg@montclair.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/summer\/register\/high-school-students\/model-united-nations-summer-academy\/?wp_logged_in=true\" target=\"_blank\">Model United Nations Summer Academy<\/a> is accepting applications for high school students interested in world events. High school students can earn three college credits while learning from a former U.N. diplomat. The program will include virtual forums and online discussions on global affairs. Students will experience the rigors and expectations of college-level learning, improving their skills in writing, negotiating, public speaking and debating.<\/p>\n<p>Two sessions will be held for the Model United Nations Summer Academy: June 29 \u2013 July 24 and July 13 \u2013 August 7. There will be asynchronous and synchronous activities, including simulations of negotiations on climate change, nuclear proliferation and terrorism. The program will accept college students this summer. For information, visit <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/montclair.edu\/summerUN\" target=\"_blank\">montclair.edu\/summerUN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Montclair High School students selected as <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/weston-science-scholars\" target=\"_blank\">Weston Science Scholars<\/a> will attend a high-intensity interactive science course. The program will run remotely. Applications for this program have ended and the program is full.<\/p>\n<p>The University\u2019s pre-college Language Institute, Italian Summer Immersion Program and Hispanic Student College Institute will not run in Summer 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RED HAWK ADVANTAGE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Incoming Montclair State students can get a jump on their freshman year by taking part in <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/Summer Sessions UPDATED Summer Sessions UPDATED 100% 12 Link start Red Hawk Advantage Link end Selected Laura Griffin Laura Griffin 10:32 AM Today Add: \u201c-- looks good to go, Marilyn\u201d Text Red Hawk Advantage Link https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/center-for-leadership-and-engagement\/engagement\/summer-bridge-program\/ Toggle screen reader support\" target=\"_blank\">Red Hawk Advantage<\/a>, a six-week summer program that gives incoming freshmen an opportunity to earn college credits. The program will be held exclusively online. Students can enroll in College Writing and receive three college credits, while also receiving academic support and daily tutoring in writing. The program will run July \u2013 August 6, 2020. Email <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"mailto:rhadvantage@montclair.edu\" target=\"_blank\">rhadvantage@montclair.edu<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SUMMER SESSIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>College students can also make the most of their summer by taking classes online. A robust Summer Sessions program offers a wide selection of undergraduate and graduate courses open to students who attend Montclair State or are home on break. The fully online classes can help students focus on a single challenging course or graduate early \u2013 or on time. Classes are offered during the months of May, June, July and August. Many of the courses offered this summer can be completed in as few as three to four weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Courses are open to current Montclair State students, visiting students and high school students. Undergraduates will receive a 12% tuition discount, and out-of-state students will pay the in-state rate. Financial aid is also available for those who qualify.
