{"id":218679,"date":"2022-07-20T12:50:49","date_gmt":"2022-07-20T16:50:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/?p=218679"},"modified":"2022-08-04T16:04:02","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T20:04:02","slug":"university-announces-tuition-and-fees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2022\/07\/20\/university-announces-tuition-and-fees\/","title":{"rendered":"University Announces Tuition and Fees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Board of Trustees at Montclair State University has approved tuition and fee rates for the 2022-2023 academic year, demonstrating that a nationally ranked public research institution committed to enhancing social mobility for its diverse population of more than 21,000 students can remain affordable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tuition and mandatory fees for in-state, full time undergraduate students will increase $231 per semester for a total annual cost of $13,762. The increase is well below the current rate of inflation and places Montclair as the third-lowest-priced public university in New Jersey for undergraduates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Montclair will expand its longstanding commitment to affordability with a $13.3 million increase to student financial aid provided by the University \u2013 one of the largest single year increases in its history and a bump of 55% over the prior year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The University will once again offer its highly popular Summer Sessions tuition discount program in 2023. Undergraduates taking six credits will save $330 off the regular fall and spring in-state rates, a discount of 12% \u2013 helping students graduate faster, and for lower cost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Montclair\u2019s continuing affordability is made possible in part by an increase in funding from the State of New Jersey. Thanks to the strong support of the Governor and legislators, the new state budget includes an additional $3 million, with the average allocation per student rising from $3,000 to $3,750.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">State leaders also showed their support for Montclair\u2019s work with Bloomfield College by allocating $12.5 million to Bloomfield, helping to ensure it can continue serving its students through the coming academic year while the two institutions work toward forming a permanent relationship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Montclair serves a highly diverse student body. More than 50% of the undergraduate student population identify as minority group members. The University is New Jersey\u2019s largest Hispanic-Serving Institution, enrolling more Latinx students than any other institution in the state. Some 40% of the incoming freshman class identify as Hispanic, more than 20% identify as Black and more than 40% identify as first-generation college students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students of color at Montclair consistently graduate at higher rates than their peers at New Jersey\u2019s other public institutions, making the state\u2019s increase in funding an investment that will help boost equity in New Jersey for generations to come.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe want to thank Governor Murphy, Senate President Scutari, Senators Ruiz, Singleton, Cunningham and Schepisi, General Assembly Speaker Coughlin, and General Assembly members Carter, Giblin, Jasey, Mukherji, Pintor Marin, and Timberlake for their leadership, this important investment in our students and for their endorsement of our work with Bloomfield College,\u201d says Montclair President Jonathan Koppell. \u201cTheir support allows Montclair to remain an effective steward of both public and tuition dollars, and an institution of higher education that offers excellence, value and access for students without dramatic increases in tuition at a time when inflation is at a 40-year high. New Jersey\u2019s increased investment is an acknowledgement of our students\u2019 success.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As part of the updated tuition and fees, rates for undergraduate, out-of-state students will increase at Montclair by $527 per semester for a total annual cost of $22,472.
