{"id":219186,"date":"2022-09-21T14:54:50","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T18:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/?p=219186"},"modified":"2022-09-21T16:12:31","modified_gmt":"2022-09-21T20:12:31","slug":"strength-in-unity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2022\/09\/21\/strength-in-unity\/","title":{"rendered":"Strength in Unity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the theme of \u201cUnidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation,\u201d Montclair State University students, faculty and staff united to officially kick off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2022\/09\/13\/celebrating-national-hispanic-heritage-month\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Hispanic\/Latinx Heritage Month<\/a> with the annual procession of flags representing dozens of Latin American countries. The group gathered outside of Susan A. Cole Hall, selected flags and then walked to the flagpoles at the Student Center to hear from University faculty, staff and representatives from campus Latinx organizations. English Professor Johnny Lorenz, president of the Latinx\/a\/o Caucus, told the students that because of Montclair\u2019s status as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a freshman class that is 41% Hispanic, \u201cThis is very much your university.\u201d The celebration was followed by a reception at the Student Center.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/09\/091922_1260_Hispanic-Heritage-LAROSA.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/09\/091922_1260_Hispanic-Heritage-LAROSA.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"students and faculty walking on campus holding flags\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students, faculty and staff proudly wave their flags as they participate in a procession celebrating Hispanic\/Latinx Heritage Month.
