Montclair State University has appointed David M. Chun to the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective May 1, 2024.<\/p>\n
In the role, he will be responsible for the management, planning and program development of information technologies across all operating divisions, and will oversee all facets of the University\u2019s Division of Information Technology and its personnel.<\/p>\n
\u201cDavid is a leader with extensive experience as a Chief Information Officer, and is someone who has previously led the initiatives we are implementing here at Montclair State University,\u201d says Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President Ben Durant. \u201cHis commitment to student success and to serving the public good, and his keen knowledge of the higher education landscape make him the ideal fit to lead the institution in this area.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chun brings decades of experience as an executive in higher education to Montclair, as well as an extensive career in the private sector overseeing information technology for Fortune 500 corporations including FIS Global. Most recently, he has served as the Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice President at Sonoma State University.<\/p>\n
Prior to his tenure at Sonoma State, Chun served as the first Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice President at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and held several roles, including Assistant Dean, at the University of Miami\u2019s Herbert Business School.<\/p>\n
In addition to leading digital transformations overseeing all aspects of information technology at each institution, he has also served as a professor and mentor to students, guiding them to positions at organizations including Apple, Cisco, Disney, Facebook, FedEx and Microsoft, and helping several to become successful entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n
Chun holds a bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and is pursuing his advanced degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n

Montclair State University\u2019s Division of Information Technology is responsible for all enterprise information technologies across the institution\u2019s 252-acre campus. This includes enterprise solutions such as wired and wireless networks and information security; enterprise applications including Montclair\u2019s student information system (Banner), finance, human resources and payroll (Workday), application portal (NEST) and identity and access management system; and technical support services for students, faculty and staff.<\/p>\n
The Division also works closely with college\/school\/division technology coordinators and resources to optimize selection, deployment and integration of enterprise and local technologies to meet campus-wide information and processing needs.<\/p>\n
