During the month-long program, she lived on campus, had a meal plan and earned 7 credits. \u201cIt took a lot of time because the classes were long but it was still a really good experience because I made a lot of friends, and it helped me get used to the school.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>A Passion for Food and Sustainability<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/04\/030325_109127_Student_Katie-Cicero_MP.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/04\/030325_109127_Student_Katie-Cicero_MP.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"Katie visits with friends at lunchtime.\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">A foodie, Katie says she initially wanted to become a nutritionist. \u201cI was really interested in keeping people healthy, but changed my major to sustainable food systems because it\u2019s more fitting for me as an environmentalist.\u201d Here, she chats with friends (L to R) Arthur Laub, Alisa Polishchuk and Nate Joslin at Freeman Dining Hall.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Adjusting to College Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/04\/030325_109981_Student_Katie-Cicero_MP.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/04\/030325_109981_Student_Katie-Cicero_MP.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"Katie talks with a classmate in German class.\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Balancing five courses her first semester was challenging. Now in her sophomore year, Katie has found her rhythm. Taking four classes, primarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/policies\/all-policies\/sequence-of-core-requirements-to-be-completed-by-the-end-of-the-sophomore-year\/\">General Education<\/a> courses required to be completed by the end of sophomore year, has helped her maintain a balanced workload while adjusting to college life. &#8220;This year has been so much better,&#8221; she says. &#8220;I&#8217;m more comfortable navigating campus and making friends.&#8221; Here, she chats with a classmate in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/academics\/german\/\">German<\/a> class.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Favorite Class<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/04\/030325_110181_Student_Katie-Cicero_MP.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/newscenter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2025\/04\/030325_110181_Student_Katie-Cicero_MP.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"Associate Professor Pascale N. I knew it was gonna be hard, but I didn&#8217;t expect it to be so much work. This day\u2019s assignment was to determine the percent of copper in a compound using gravimetric analysis, a quantitative method used to determine the amount or concentration of a substance in a sample based on its mass.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Advice to Prospective Students<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cLook at Rate My Professors; that&#8217;s an important thing.
