MSU-Secure Setup for Windows 7

The MSU-Secure network is the recommended option for anyone with a MSU NetID. Most modern wireless devices are capable of using WPA2 encryption. The following steps will show you how to setup MSU-Secure on your Windows 7 device.

  1. ‌Go to Start > Control Panel.

  2. Make sure Category is set as your view by option, then click Network and Internet.

  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.

  4. Click Set up a new connection or network.

  5. Select Manually connect to a wireless network, then click Next.

  6. Enter or select the following, then click Next.
    • Network name: MSU-Secure
      Note: the network name (SSID) is case-sensitive
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES

  7. Click Change connection settings.

  8. Click the Security tab.
  9. Uncheck "Remember my credentials".
  10. Click Settings.

  11. In the "Protected EAP Properties" window, make sure that "Validate Server Certificate" is checked and "Connect to these Servers" is unchecked.
  12. Click Configure 
  13. Uncheck "Automatically use my Windows Logon name and password (and domain if any)," then click OK.
  14. Click OK.

  15. Click Advanced Settings.

  16. Check “Specify authentication mode” and choose “User authentication” then click “Save credentials”
  17. Enter your MSU NetID and Password and click OK.
  18. Click OK.

  19. Click Close.

  20. Connect to MSU-Secure.

  21. Click Connect.
