Debra Bergsma Otte is a faculty member in both Fashion Studies and Theatre. She serves as the Program Coordinator for two programs at Montclair State University: Makeup Artistry Certificate and the BFA in Theatre, Production and Design Program. Her work focuses primarily in the areas of costume, hair and makeup design. She previously served as Director of both the Theatre and Arts Management programs at Long Island University. Her design credits include costume designs for CBS, the Joffrey Ballet, Linda Tarnay, Merce Cunningham, many regional, Off-Broadway and university productions; puppet design for Henson Associates; and industrial design work for Parker Davis, Chrysler and Burger King.
She has worked extensively with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), serving on the national level as Chair-of-Chairs and Festival Production Respondent and Regional Design Respondent. She was Chair of Region II (2002-2005) and Design Co-Chair. In 1999 and 2005, she was honored to receive the Kennedy Center Gold Medallion for her work with KCACTF. She holds an MFA in Design from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University and her undergraduate degree from Calvin College.
