Academic Success Center
The Student Academic Services unit is a cluster of departments that are dedicated to facilitating student progress and success by offering a variety of pertinent services to students including testing, orientation, advisement and tutoring. The departments are as follows:
Center for Advising and Student Transitions - advises freshmen and undeclared sophomores. The department also offers many initiatives to monitor their progress and to foster a strong connection between the students' interests and their fields of study including orientation, learning communities, new student seminar, peer advising, and honor societies.
Academic Success Center – offers tutoring, supplemental instruction, and study skills workshops to provide academic support to all students. The department also conducts the assessment of freshmen and some transfer students to ensure appropriate course placement.
Educational Opportunity Fund Program - provides quality academic support, leadership development, financial literacy, career enrichment, intentional counseling/advisement, and need based financial assistance for motivated state residents from underrepresented populations/areas that meet the income criteria and exhibit the potential for high achievement.
Office of Academic Success and Retention Programs – provides hands-on orientation, campus adjustment support and advising resources to all students, specifically incoming sophomore and older transfer students, upperclassmen, KIPP scholars, adult learners, veteran/military students and older-adult learners, in order to help them graduate in a timely fashion. The office assists veteran/military students with all of their military benefit certification needs. The department also coordinates the Pre-College Summer Program for developmental students who need to fulfill basic skills course requirements in reading and mathematics.
Office of Adult Success Programs – provides orientation, advising and programming for non-traditional adult students. The office focuses on easing the adjustment and integration into the college environment by addressing the unique needs of the adult student.
