Dr. Reynol Junco to visit Montclair State: "Srsly, we're going to use it for class?"

Special Guest Speaker to visit Montclair State to discuss the use of social media in the classroom; addressing the faculty and student perspective. Featuring Dr. Reynol Junco, Purdue University.

The Research Academy for University Learning, in partnership with the Academic Technology Committee and with support from many Montclair State programs and departments (listed below), is proud to announce that Dr. Reynol Junco, Associate Professor, Purdue University will be visiting the Montclair State University campus on September 27, 2013.

Rey will spend the day giving two talks to the campus community. The first talk will be based on a chapter from his forthcoming book, Engaging Students through Social Media: An Evidence-Based Approach for Student Affairs, (Wiley/Jossey-Bass, March 2014), and is titled, "'Srsly? We're going to use it for class?': Evidence-based approaches to using social media in the classroom." Rey will speak on the use of social media like Facebook and Twitter to support student learning, with a focus on research-based practices that can lead to deep learning outcomes.

Rey's second talk of the day, "Inside the Educator's Studio," will take place at 2:30PM in the L. Howard Fox Theatre. Rey's focus will shift slightly to tackle the student perspective, in discussion with students and faculty on the intersections of learning and social media, and connecting with student's academically and socially outside the classroom. Art Esposito, Associate Director of Advising (CAST), will interview Rey about his research and experience using social media with students, interspersed with audience questions, discussions, and student perspectives.

Faculty who are interested in engaging their students in discussion on the academic and professional use of social media are encouraged to bring their classes and to advise their students of the event.
