Research Academy Welcomes New Associate Director, Dr. Cigdem Talgar

June 6, 2011– The Research Academy for University Learning (RAUL) at Montclair State University (MSU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Cigdem Talgar as its new Associate Director. Dr. Talgar has been part of the MSU family for several years as a faculty member in the psychology department. She became a Teaching Fellow with the Research Academy in 2008, and has since been actively involved in programs and grant initiatives that further the mission of RAUL.

RAUL is committed to bridging the gap between teaching and research, and creating learning environments that encourage creativity, innovation and deep learning for university students. The associate director position is uniquely charged with furthering those goals and working intimately with faculty to build a community of teaching and learning scholarship.

The search committee considered applicants from around the world, seeking to find a new associate who would bring the necessary academic experience, training and education to this highly challenging position. After an extensive and thorough review of all qualified candidates, the committee unanimously selected Dr. Talgar as their first choice for associate director. They made their recommendation to Dr. Ken Bain,  Vice Provost for University Learning and Teaching, and Director of RAUL, who concurred with their decision.

 Dr. Talgar, a psychologist, demonstrated a career-long dedication to promoting excellence in university teaching and learning, including recent research on how different psychological phenomenon influence the classroom environment. She brings with her an extensive resume that spans research topics in experimental and applied psychology, with particular focus on attention, perception, cognition and social psychology, and has spent the last four years deeply involved in RAUL sponsored research and programs.

 Dr. Talgar will be overseeing many faculty-driven initiatives, including faculty teaching consultations ( , grant development, and research ( .
