Each University Fellow is assigned to one section of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/provost\/new-student-seminar\/\">New Student Seminar<\/a> and works in collaboration with the instructor and the other Fellows within their assigned College\/School.<\/p>\n<p>Each University Fellow will be expected to facilitate small group discussions during class, assist with course instruction, provide support during course selection and registration, and serve as a referral resource for peers. <strong>University Fellows are not responsible for grading in any capacity. <\/strong>Each Fellow will have an average of 25 mentees and will be expected to commit to a minimum of three (3) hours of weekly responsibilities in this role. Other responsibilities may include support of college events, programs, and initiatives that may occur in the evenings or on the weekends.<\/p>\n<span class=\"prpl-button\"><a href=\"https:\/\/montclair.campuslabs.com\/engage\/organization\/university-fellows\/events\">Upcoming Info Sessions<\/a><\/span>\n<h3><em>Ideal University Fellows:<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Are patient and supportive of their peers.<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy public speaking and building relationships.<\/li>\n<li>Are comfortable with large and small group facilitation.<\/li>\n<li>Have a collaborative work style.<\/li>\n<li>Appreciate different learning styles, as well as diverse and inclusive environments.<\/li>\n<li>Are able to exercise careful, independent judgment, and can work effectively with minimal supervision.<\/li>\n<li>Are receptive to constructive feedback and seek help when needed.<\/li>\n<li>Have a strong academic background and desire to mentor first-year students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Eligibility Requirements<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>Current, non-graduating undergraduate student<\/li>\n<li>Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.<\/li>\n<li><em>GPAs will be verified at the time of application and at the end of each semester.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Completion of at least one semester and 15 credits earned at Montclair State University.\n<ul>\n<li><em>Successful completion of GNED 199 (New Student Seminar) with a B- or better.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0In good conduct standing at Montclair with an outcome of \u2018Not Responsible\u2019 for University Code of Conduct violations.\n<ul>\n<li><em>Conduct history will be verified at the time of application and at the end of each semester.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Preferred Qualifications<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Ability to take the lead in supporting mentees through an ongoing one-to-one relationship and serve as a positive role model.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Strong work ethic.<\/li>\n<li>Desire to develop leadership skills and become a strong team member.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) or Google Suite, NEST, Navigate, Degree Works, Engage and other student systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Time Commitment<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>University Fellows are committed to one (1) academic year of service. This time commitment includes:<br \/>\n<div class=\"tab-group\"><div class=\"tab-content\"><h2>Mandatory Training and Meetings<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>An introductory training session at the end of the spring semester.<\/li>\n<li>An All-Team Summer Training scheduled for late August.<\/li>\n<li>Monthly in-service meetings focused on program updates and personal and professional development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"tab-content\"><h2>Expectations for the Fall Semester<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum of three (3) hours <strong>per week<\/strong> inclusive of weekly 50-minute New Student Seminar class, meetings with your instructor(s), and interactions with your mentees.<\/li>\n<li>Support Montclair State and College\/School programs and events that may occur in the evenings or on the weekends.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"tab-content\"><h2>Expectations for the Spring Semester<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum of eight (8) hours <strong>per month<\/strong> inclusive of support and participation in University and College\/School\u2019s programs and events, meetings with your assigned supervisor, and continued outreach to your cohort of mentees.<\/li>\n<li>Provide administrative and academic support to the planned activities and initiatives of the University Fellows program and your assigned College\/School.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Compensation and Benefits<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>Paid $400.00 upon completion of role responsibilities each semester;<\/li>\n<li>A letter of recommendation from the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of University College at the successful completion of your service;<\/li>\n<li>A certificate of recognition at the successful completion of your service;<\/li>\n<li>Learn transferable skills that you can add to your resume and market to other employers;<\/li>\n<li>Networking and mentoring opportunity with Montclair State University, faculty, staff and senior-level University administrators;<\/li>\n<li>Leadership experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Application Timeline<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year will open\u00a0<strong>Friday, January 19, 2024\u00a0<\/strong>for all undergraduate students.
