{"id":2891,"date":"2022-05-25T09:46:21","date_gmt":"2022-05-25T13:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/provost\/?page_id=2891"},"modified":"2022-05-25T09:51:53","modified_gmt":"2022-05-25T13:51:53","slug":"mentors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/provost\/undergraduate-education\/rise\/mentors\/","title":{"rendered":"R.I.S.E Mentors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RISE Mentors will adopt a <strong>Near Peer Mentor<\/strong> mentorship approach. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A near peer mentor goes well beyond simple achievement by using the context of the relationship to help the mentee grow developmentally, in addition to learning skills, and is a more salient role model because of the proximity in age \u2014 <\/span><strong>older enough to be someone to look up to, but young enough to be relatable and a true friend<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Mentor Qualities <\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">High Academic Standing<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dependable<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Confident<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Honest<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pleasant<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Accessible<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Enthusiastic<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Companionable<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Expectations:<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is expected that Montclair R.I.S.E mentors will be able to create their own curriculum and engage with the mentees after being taught how to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements to be a RISE Mentor:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A GPA of 2.75 or above.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sophomore year status or above.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In good conduct standing at the University.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A willingness to share personal experiences in a caring, supportive, understanding, and empathetic manner.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Comfortability with public speaking and facilitating group presentations or activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Availability to complete summer training and periodic meetings<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Apply to be a RISE Mentor<\/h3>\n<span class=\"prpl-button\"><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/montclair.co1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_9pJbMXKA6t864Ae\" target=\"_blank\">Apply Now<\/a><\/span>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RISE Mentors will adopt a Near Peer Mentor mentorship approach.
