Academic policies are the rules and guides for all academic life at the university.The Academic Policy Committee regularly meets to review, update and draft policies that govern the academic life of the university. The Committee is regularly working on drafting new policies or edits to current policies at the same time, while shepherding drafts through a multistage review process before final approval by the Provost. <\/span><\/p>\n

Policy Approval Process<\/h3>\n

Montclair\u2019s process for considering edits to an existing academic policy, or a new academic policy:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. A policy need is identified.\u00a0 This may be from regular review by the Committee of current policies, or a <\/span>suggestion from the University community<\/span><\/a>, or a directed request by the Provost or other leadership.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The Academic Policy Committee conducts its review, which\u00a0 entails research into other universities\u2019 policies and national best practices, conversations with stakeholders on campus, and review of relevant history on campus.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The Committee determines whether the policy will be revised by consensus. Drafting, review, and redrafting continues until a new text is ready.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. The draft then goes through three levels of review, with edits to the draft possible after each review:<\/span>\n
