Recommended Timeline for Success
Consider doing these things each month of the year while at Montclair State University
Pre-May
- Students apply to the university
- Review and follow one of the “Accepted Student Checklists”
- Submit a FAFSA application (or the NJ Alternative Application)
- Receive your “Shopping Sheet” as an email from the Financial Aid Office
May
- New Student Deposit should be paid
- Housing Deposit for new resident students should be paid
- Activate your NetID and begin to utilize your Montclair State email address
- Sign up for Orientation
June
- Class preferences survey is sent out by University College to collect information from students to assist in building fall and spring semester class schedules
- Housing preferences survey is sent out by the Office of Residence Life
July
- Immunization records are due to be uploaded via the MyHealth portal to the University Health Center
- The official fall bill is provided via email and through NEST at the end of the month (approximate date)
August
- The Health Insurance Waiver/Enrollment Portal opens
- Payment Plan enrollment options through TouchNet on NEST become available
- The fall semester bill is due
- The 5-month payment plan option enrollment deadline
- Move-in dates for resident students are establish and sent out to eligible students through the Office of Residence life.
September
- Add/Drop week takes place the first week of the semester
- Financial aid disburses, once professors have completed attendance verification to confirm students are attending their courses
- The deadline for full-time students to waive the health insurance fee
- The 4-month payment plan option enrollment deadline
October
- The FAFSA application for the following academic year becomes available to submit. We recommend completing the FAFSA between the October opening date and the February priority deadline.
- Spring class registration takes place
- The 3-month payment plan option enrollment deadline
November
- Late fees are assessed to students who have an outstanding Fall balance at this time and have not enrolled into a payment pla
December
- End of the fall semester
- Winter Sessions begin
