goals.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff.<\/li>\n<li>Weekly service hours to an academic department in exchange for a commensurate compensation package.<\/li>\n<li>1 in 12 graduate students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What Would an Assistantship Look Like?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Assignments\n<ul>\n<li>Instructional support<\/li>\n<li>Research<\/li>\n<li>Fieldwork<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Contract Terms\n<ul>\n<li>Full year<\/li>\n<li>One matriculated in a degree program (you need an admissions decision!)<\/li>\n<li>Full-time enrollment once appointed (with exceptions)<\/li>\n<li>Minimum incoming or current GPA\n<ul>\n<li>Masters: 3.0<\/li>\n<li>Doctoral: 3.2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Assistantships are NOT available to students:\n<ul>\n<li>Seeking a certificate or certification only<\/li>\n<li>Who are student teaching<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining a non-degree status<\/li>\n<li>In an online-only program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How Do I Apply for an Assistantship?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Upon initial application for your degree program\n<ul>\n<li>Within the application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>After initial application for your degree program\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If you had indicated interest<\/strong> upon initial application but didn\u2019t receive an assistantship your first semester.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you had not indicated interest<\/strong> upon initial application but selection of students<\/li>\n<li>Departments submit recommendations to TGS<\/li>\n<li>TGS handles the hiring<\/li>\n<li>No offer is official unless\/until you receive a formal offer letter and Aid Process<\/h2>\n<h3>What is Financial Aid?<\/h3>\n<p>Financial Aid is an umbrella term that includes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Loans<\/li>\n<li>Scholarship<\/li>\n<li>Any funds that do not come from you personally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Aid Eligibility<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>High School Diploma or Equivalent<\/li>\n<li>Enrollment in an eligible program<\/li>\n<li>U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen<\/li>\n<li>Valid Social Security Number<\/li>\n<li>Sign certifying statements on the FAFSA<\/li>\n<li>FAFSA filers must answer the drug question<\/li>\n<li>Male students must be registered with Selective Service\n<ul>\n<li>Or must consent to registration while completing FAFSA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Steps to Receiving Aid<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply for an\u00a0FSA ID at\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/fsaid.ed.gov\" target=\"_blank\">fsaid.ed.gov<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Complete FAFSA application at <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/fsaid.ed.gov\" target=\"_blank\">fafsa.gov<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Types of Aid<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Loans<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Federal Direct Stafford Loans (no credit check)\n<ul>\n<li>In the student\u2019s name<\/li>\n<li>Repayment begins 6 months after student is no longer enrolled at least half-time (4.5 credits)<\/li>\n<li>This is an unsubsidized loan:\n<ul>\n<li>Interest accrues while student is enrolled<\/li>\n<li>Fixed rate of 6% (1.069% origination fee)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Students must go to <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/studentloans.gov\/myDirectLoan\/index.action\" target=\"_blank\">www.studentloans.gov<\/a> and sign their master promissory note and complete entrance counseling in order for loans to pay against the bill.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Federal Graduate PLUS Loan\u00a0 (Credit check required)\n<ul>\n<li>Based on credit check<\/li>\n<li>Endorser (co-signer) if number of steps to be taken by the borrower and the lender before a loan can be disbursed\n<ul>\n<li>Private loans can take up a month or more to
