{"id":2653,"date":"2019-05-14T10:05:43","date_gmt":"2019-05-14T14:05:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/?page_id=2653"},"modified":"2020-06-24T10:45:40","modified_gmt":"2020-06-24T14:45:40","slug":"transfer-student-orientation-presentation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/who-we-are\/presentations\/transfer-student-orientation-presentation\/","title":{"rendered":"Transfer Student Orientation Presentation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This presentation is available for download using the following link:<\/p>\n<span class=\"prpl-button\"><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2019\/05\/Transfer-Orientation-19-20.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Download Presentation<\/a><\/span>\n<p>If you prefer not to download the file, please read the presentation transcript below.<\/p>\n<h2>Notification<\/h2>\n<p>Montclair State uses two main ways to provide information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MSU NEST<\/li>\n<li>MSU Email<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is the students\u2019 responsibility to check their NEST and Montclair State email regularly for updates.<\/p>\n<h2>NEST<\/h2>\n<p>NEST allows students to review and manage activities including<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Financial Aid<\/li>\n<li>Billing<\/li>\n<li>Registration<\/li>\n<li>Holds<\/li>\n<li>Direct Deposit<\/li>\n<li>Class Schedule<\/li>\n<li>Grades<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is Financial Aid?<\/h2>\n<p>Financial Aid is an umbrella term that includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grants<\/li>\n<li>Work<\/li>\n<li>Scholarships<\/li>\n<li>Loans\n<ul>\n<li>Any funds that do not come from you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Explanation of Awards<\/h2>\n<p><em><strong>Grants\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 (do not need to be paid back)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Federal Pell<\/li>\n<li>Institutional grant eligibility\n<ul>\n<li>Both are determined by your FAFSA application [EFC]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>NJ Tuition Aid Grant (NJ TAG)\n<ul>\n<li>Students must complete the State Application at\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.njgrants.org\/\">njgrants.org<\/a><\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>This process is required for NJ TAG, EOF, NJ Stars<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Work Study<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Based on EFC eligibility and awarded on a first come, first awarded basis<\/li>\n<li>Students <em>must<\/em> get a job on campus to receive these funds\n<ul>\n<li>Paid to the student biweekly, not to the bill<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Direct Loans<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Federal loans for students enrolled at least half-time\n<ul>\n<li>In the student\u2019s name<\/li>\n<li>Fixed interest rate<\/li>\n<li>Typically most affordable type of student loans<\/li>\n<li>Repayment 6 months after student is no longer enrolled at least half-time.
