With the creation of the Red Hawk Mathematics Learning Center (RHMLC), Montclair State University has implemented an innovative, exciting and successful approach to mathematics education. The RHMLC is a mathematics “emporium” style computer-aided learning facility offering six classes:
- MATH 100 – Intermediate Algebra
- MATH 103 – The Development of Mathematics
- MATH 109 – Statistics
- MATH 110 – Biostatistics
- MATH 115 – Supplemental Topics in Statistics for the Biological Sciences
The RHMLC provides a superior learning environment coupling advanced, user-friendly mathematics technology with personal, on-demand assistance from highly qualified instructors, graduate assistants and undergraduate tutors. Courses are designed to enhance active learning and problem-solving skills, utilizing the principal that doing mathematics is the most effective way to learn mathematics.
Students also have small group lectures or breakout sessions, called focus groups, with a graduate assistant on a weekly basis to keep them on target and to enable a stronger connection to their classmates, center staff, and the material.
The RHMLC is located on the third floor of Conrad J. Schmitt Hall comprising of rooms 329, 340, a small group tutoring room near the Center, and 352.
Hours for the RHMLC will be posted after the start of the semester.
Tutoring is available by appointment for RHMLC classes in Schmitt Hall room 340.
