Cases on Campus

There were 47 new cases of COVID-19 on the campus in the week ending on April 14, and 22 in the last week. Visit the COVID-19 dashboard for a breakdown of cases by students, employees and contractors.

None of those infected have needed to be hospitalized, according to Patricia Ruiz, director of the University Health Center, and there were no indications of transmission in classrooms.

Keep Wearing Those Masks

The current mask policy will remain in effect, President Koppell announced at his Spring Town Hall Meeting for employees earlier this week. “It’s working for us,” he said, adding that people get frustrated by “flip-flopping.” Koppell noted that some municipalities and universities who had lifted their mask requirements have put them back in place in response to rising case numbers. He added that his new student advisory group, The Cauldron, recommended keeping it, as they believe that “the interaction on campus would be worse without a mask requirement because everybody would be more nervous. And while there are some people who don’t love wearing masks, it creates a level of comfort being together and gathering.”

So remember to please wear a face covering consistently when indoors on the campus, and wear one outdoors when it’s not possible to practice social distancing. Thank you for helping keep our community safe!
