Summer Return to Work on Campus

The University is preparing to welcome students back to a fully normal fall semester, with courses and activities on campus. In order to prepare for full on-campus instruction beginning in September, for the return of thousands of students to on-campus housing in August, and for the transition of all services from pandemic-imposed distance operations to normal on-campus operations, an orderly and phased return of employees to normal work patterns will be implemented beginning June 28 and achieving full return by August 16.

Some units remained or have already returned to functioning at close to 100% normal on-campus activity, including: the President’s Office; University Facilities; Office of the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life and various student service functional units; University Police; College of Science and Mathematics; College of the Arts Broadcast and Media Operations; School of Nursing; the Office of the Dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and the Office of the Dean, Feliciano School of Business. Those work schedules will continue, as will the schedules of a number of other units which are already functioning at or above 50% on campus.

The remainder of the University’s divisions who are working primarily or wholly remotely will now continue the transition back to full normal on-campus operations on one of two schedules, as follows:

Schedule A:

  • Enrollment Management
  • Student Development and Campus Life
  • Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • McColgan Student Services Center – Feliciano School of Business
  • Student services personnel – College of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Student Success Center – College of Education and Human Services
  • Student services personnel – College of the Arts
  • University College
  • Office of Student Accounts – Finance

During the current period of the four-day summer work schedule through the return of the five-day work schedule on August 16.

Effective June 28
All employees will return to an on-campus work schedule for at least two days each week.
Effective July 12
All employees will return to an on-campus work schedule for at least three days each week.
Effective August 2
All employees will return to an on-campus work schedule for four days each week.
Effective August 16
All employees will return to a normal five-day on-campus work schedule.

During the current period of the four-day summer work schedule through the return of the five-day work schedule on August 16:

Effective June 28
All employees will return to an on-campus work schedule for at least two days each week.
Effective July 19
All employees will return to an on-campus work schedule for at least three days each week.
Effective August 16
All employees will return to the normal five-day on-campus work schedule.

The head of each division, in accordance with the work needs of their division, will provide their employees with specific guidance in regard to their division’s implementation of the Summer Return to On-campus Work Plan.

All individual work accommodations for health reasons must be approved by the Office of Human Resources, and such accommodations will be for a specific period of time. Employees with HR-approved accommodations will work in accordance with those plans.

Faculty and instructional staff with summer assignments will work in accordance with their appointments.

All employees will continue to have the ability to use regular sick leave or approved vacation leave during the Summer Return to On-campus Work period.

Effective September 1, all faculty and instructional staff will return to the normal work schedules associated with their positions.
