{"id":518,"date":"2018-11-21T10:40:47","date_gmt":"2018-11-21T15:40:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/religion\/?p=518"},"modified":"2018-11-21T10:40:47","modified_gmt":"2018-11-21T15:40:47","slug":"native-american-environmental-justice-in-new-jersey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/religion\/2018\/11\/21\/native-american-environmental-justice-in-new-jersey\/","title":{"rendered":"Native American Environmental Justice in New Jersey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A film screening and panel discussion held on November 13, involving the Ramapough Nation, co-sponsored by Religion, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/anthropology\/\">Anthropology<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/history\/\">History<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/earth-and-environmental-studies\/\">Earth and Environmental Studies<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cehs\/academics\/centers-and-institutes\/education-project\/\">Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education Project<\/a> was well received by Montclair State students, faculty and community members.<\/p>\n<p>The standing-room only program was full of energy all evening and focused on indigenous rights &amp; environmental justice efforts here in New Jersey. A clip was shown of the HBO documentary <em>Mann v. Ford,<\/em> based on the Ramapough Tribe&#8217;s legal fight with Ford Motor company over the contamination of Ringwood, NJ. It was followed by remarks from Micah Fink, the Producer\/Director of the film, the Turtle Clan Chief Vincent Mann (Ramapough Nation), Vivian Milligan (Ramapough), Wayne Mann (Ramapough), Wenke Taule (former mayor of Ringwood), Dr. Anita Bakshi (Rutgers), and Dr. Jessica Miller (Montclair State).
