School of Communication and Media has created a digital platform show around disruption

By: Rayane Yamout

The School of Communication and Media (SCM) will produce a one-hour special #FOCUSDisruption on Wednesday, November 17, at 3 p.m. Students from The Montclarion, ,WMSC, Red Hawk Sports Network and Montclair News Lab collaborated to generate interviews and content on a wide range of topics from the post-pandemic world, including climate change, education reform, misinformation, labor shortages, and mental health.

The show will feature interviews with Dr. David Axelrod from Feliciano School of Business and Keith Green from the School of Communication and Media, while Delaney Reynolds, Founder, and CEO of NGO, the Sink or Swim Project, will discuss climate change and activism from the perspective of a young activist.

Other packages include interviews with family members from the New Jersey community as they share struggles from unemployment and fear of debt. SCM student Givonna Boggans will interview Jessica Bober, who experienced self-doubt as a new parent while struggling with issues related to the global pandemic.

Each semester, SCM students work cross-functionally as part of The Coordination Desk, a multi-platform and multi-organizational effort to tackle a “hot button” issue important to students, community, and society. These topics are branded as a #Focus initiative and culminate in the planning, launching and promotion of live shows such as this one.

A live stream of the event will be available on YouTube
