News Literacy Week, February 20-24

SCM will host News Literacy Week February 20-24 in support of the student-led ’22-23 PRSSA Bateman Case Study Challenge team supporting the goals of its client News Literacy Project. A feature element of this week includes a dynamic panel discussion on media literacy and misinformation featuring Pat Battle, Anchor and Reporter at NBC 4 New York/WNBC, Liz Gonzalez, Consumer Reporter at Telemundo 47/WNJU and Ben Berkowitz, Vice President of Digital at NBC 4 New York/WNBC and Telemundo 47/WNJU and Dr. Bond Benton, SCM Professor of Strategic Communications. The panel will take place on Thursday, February 23, 1-2 p.m., in Presentation Hall. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

About the Campaign

The SCM students developed a dynamic “Touch Grass, Check Facts” campaign designed to educate and empower the University campus and community to spot and stop the spread of misinformation. Students can participate and follow the campaign @msutouchgrass on Instagram and TikTok. The campaign was developed by a team of School of Communication and Media (SCM) students who are participating in the ‘22-23 Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) national Bateman Case Study Competition to support the goals of its client News Literacy Project.
