You may be placed in settings with areas of specialty including, but not limited to:<\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-row\"><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<ul>\n<li>Social Work\/Human Services<\/li>\n<li>Social Justice<\/li>\n<li>Research<\/li>\n<li>Law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"prpl-column one-half\">\n<ul>\n<li>Health<\/li>\n<li>Environmental\/Sustainability<\/li>\n<li>Human Resources<\/li>\n<li>Social Policy<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"pre-heading\">Internship Application and Deadlines<\/span><br \/><\/h2>\n<p>Sociology Majors have a new option for their senior capstone. Students may continue to register for <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/search\/?search=soci+400\">SOCI 400 Senior Project<\/a>. They may also register for <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/search\/?search=soci+410\">SOCI 410 Internship Capstone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring Application Deadline: October 21, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<span class=\"prpl-button ghost-red\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScxSZ-_F8roxaFAATn98gJQXEA9Yf-Mtjexh_AJInudKNkGOg\/viewform\">Spring 2026 SOCI 410 Application<\/a><\/span>\n<p>After submitting the online application, you should receive a confirmation message and an email with your submitted responses immediately.\u00a0 If you do not receive these, your application may not have been successfully submitted and you should follow up with the instructor, Dr. Ruszczyk.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is an online application, but you may preview the application as a PDF <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/sociology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/99\/2023\/10\/Sociology-Internship-Application-Preview.pdf\">here<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Purpose<\/h3>\n<p>This Sociology capstone course is designed to help students understand the social forces that shape professional settings in human services, schools, community organizations, and policy and research settings. This experiential course draws upon theories and concepts students covered in previous sociology courses and, therefore provides them with the opportunity to integrate and deepen understandings of social theory, social research, and the social world as well as examine issues of professionalization and methods of social change.<\/p>\n<p>The Capstone Internship is designed to prepare students for starting life as sociologists after college\u2014this includes preparing for the work force and understanding how we can be public sociologists. The goal of the course is to provide you with an end-of-program \u201ccapstone experience\u201d in which to apply your sociological knowledge and skills to the world of work and beyond. Additionally, this course will help students to recognize the opportunities and privileges that come with a college degree as well as its limits, challenging them to devise long-term strategies to pursue a meaningful and engaged life.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Eligibility &amp; Prerequisite Requirements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>All\u00a0<em>Sociology Majors<\/em>\u00a0must successfully complete the application process in order to receive permission to register for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/search\/?search=soci+410\">SOCI 410 Internship<\/a>.\u00a0 For students who anticipate registering for\u00a0SOCI 410, the following requirements must be met by the start of the semester you are applying for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senior level standing is recommended<\/li>\n<li>The successful completion of <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/search\/?search=soci+240\">SOCI 240<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/search\/?search=soci+301\">SOCI 301<\/a> is required<\/li>\n<li>Completion of <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/search\/?search=soci+313\">SOCI 313<\/a> is recommended<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Important Factors to Consider<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Students must submit their application and meet the eligibility requirements by the following DEADLINE:<\/p>\n<p><strong>SPRING:\u00a0 October 21, 2025 for SOCI 410.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All applications must be completed and submitted online.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students are encouraged to submit the application as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<li>Students are responsible for checking their MSU email for important updates about the internship process.<\/li>\n<li>Many internship sites require a background check. You\u00a0must advisethe instructor if you have a prior arrest, conviction or expungement.<\/li>\n<li>Internships require 100 hours of fieldwork over the designated semester.<\/li>\n<li>All self-placements must be approved by the Department.<\/li>\n<li>Students must create a well designed and grammatically correct resume with no spelling errors.
