{"id":1119,"date":"2022-05-19T14:43:03","date_gmt":"2022-05-19T18:43:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/spanish-and-latino-studies\/?p=1119"},"modified":"2022-05-19T14:43:03","modified_gmt":"2022-05-19T18:43:03","slug":"spanish-majors-produce-third-live-audio-description-script-for-classic-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/spanish-and-latino-studies\/2022\/05\/19\/spanish-majors-produce-third-live-audio-description-script-for-classic-play\/","title":{"rendered":"Spanish Majors Produce Third Live Audio Description Script for Classic Play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s been a Golden Globe winning movie and TV show. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And now thanks to eight students from Associate Professor Dr. Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Garc\u00eda Vizca\u00edno\u2019s Audio Description course, a recent adaptation by Cuban theater director Leyma L\u00f3pez of the play <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Filomena Marturano: Un Matrimonio a la Caribe\u00f1a<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, by one of Italy&#8217;s greatest dramatists, Eduardo De Filippo, was also fully enjoyed by members of the visually impaired Hispanic community. It <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">took place on Saturday, April 30 at Repertorio Espa\u00f1ol, in NYC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Through audio description, the audience members listen through an earphone and special receiver to a narration that describes the relevant visual elements of the performance without intruding on the dialogue of the performers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the unique moments of this event was the pre-show experience or tactile experience that took place before the play. In this pre-show experience, those with visual impairments were able to touch a miniature stage and key objects of the performance to give them a holistic experience of the artistic and literary component of the play.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis was a truly rewarding experience for the students and audience alike on so many different levels: academic, professional and personal.
