Indirect costs are typically not readily identifiable to any single project, but rather support overall sponsored project activities. In order to recoup indirect costs, Montclair has a negotiated indirect cost rate with the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>Montclair State University\u2019s Federally Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate for research and sponsored programs on campus is currently 46% of a project\u2019s modified total direct costs (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/sponsored-programs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/194\/2022\/01\/2022-IDC-Rate-Agreement.pdf\">Montclair\u2019s Indirect Cost and Fringe Benefit Rate Agreement<\/a>, dated October 27, 2021).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The standard distribution for indirect cost funds recovered from sponsored research programs is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">General University Fund \u2013 30%<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">School\/College Dean\u2019s Office \u2013 15%<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Academic Department \u2013 25%<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Principal Investigator \u2013 10%\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Office of Sponsored Programs \u2013 20%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In unique circumstances, when an award is granted to an institute, center, or core facility, a non-standard distribution can be requested. Non-standard distribution requests will be reviewed by the applicable Dean and Vice Provost for Research.
