Transfer Student Advising
Transfer Student Advising - Undeclared/Discovery
Welcome Transfer Students!
Congratulations on your acceptance to Montclair State University! Our goal is to ensure you have the necessary tools and information to achieve academic success as you continue your educational journey. Your first step toward achieving academic success at Montclair State is meeting with an academic advisor.
To assist in preparing for your appointment, please be sure to do the following:
Although you are Undeclared/Discovery, review the curriculum and graduation plan that corresponds with the major you are interested in pursuing. If you do not yet know what major you want to pursue, you can skip this step.
Make sure your final transcripts have been sent to Admissions and have been evaluated; any previous coursework will be visible in Degree Works (review your degree audit by clicking on the Degree Works link in NEST):
Know/obtain your CWID, Personal Identification Number (PIN), and NetID (your email account login ID), as part of the transfer student checklist.
Review the instructions on how to register for courses via NEST.
Take a look at the upcoming course offerings and identify the Montclair State University courses you need to/would like to take.
Review some the transfer student frequently asked questions, for answers to some of the questions you may have.
During your academic advising session, you will have an opportunity to:
Examine how your individual transfer credits fit into your intended curriculum; or the Undeclared/Discovery program.
Discuss where and how many of your credits transferred into Montclair State.
Review the courses you have selected for the upcoming semester - our goal is for you to register for courses before leaving your academic advising session!
Raise questions or concerns about your next steps and your first semester of enrollment at Montclair State.
Sign-up for your academic advising session by calling (973) 655-7114.
**Please note: Students enrolled in the
Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program should contact EOF at: (973) 655-4385
Veteran/Military students should contact the office of
Academic Success and Retention Services at: (973) 655-4162.
Remember, academic advising appointments should be made prior to attending your transfer student orientation and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is highly recommended that you schedule your appointment for the first available date as classes tend to fill up quickly.
