{"id":2627,"date":"2023-05-15T15:37:50","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T19:37:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/student-health-center\/?p=2627"},"modified":"2023-05-15T16:07:48","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T20:07:48","slug":"celebrating-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/student-health-center\/2023\/05\/15\/celebrating-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You have worked hard this semester and summer is a time to enjoy fun celebrations and festivals.\u00a0 Preparing for these gatherings is a great way to make sure that you stay healthy before, during, and after these celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few suggestions:<\/p>\n<h2>Stay Up to Date on Your Sexual Health Care<\/h2>\n<p>Visit the Student Health Center,\u00a0 your health care provider or find a health clinic to stay up to date with your sexual health care. Discuss the types of sex you have so that your provider can offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/std\/prevention\/screeningreccs.htm\">testing<\/a> and prevention services, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/schedules\/hcp\/imz\/adult.html\">vaccines<\/a>, that are right for you.<\/p>\n<h3>Stay Safe in Hot Weather<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Stay Cool<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.<\/li>\n<li>Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible.<\/li>\n<li>Try to limit your outdoor activity to when it\u2019s coolest, like morning and evening hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stay hydrated<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drink plenty of fluids. Don\u2019t wait until you\u2019re thirsty to drink.<\/li>\n<li>Limit very sugary or alcoholic drinks\u2014these actually cause you to lose more body fluid.<\/li>\n<li>Replace salts and minerals.\u00a0 A sports drink or food can replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stay informed<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Know the symptoms of dehydration:\n<ul>\n<li>Feeling very thirsty<\/li>\n<li>Dry mouth<\/li>\n<li>Dark-colored urine<\/li>\n<li>Feeling tired<\/li>\n<li>Dizziness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Be Mindful of Alcohol Intake<\/h3>\n<p>If you drink alcohol, health care providers advise limiting how much you drink. This is called drinking in moderation, or responsible drinking.\u00a0 Responsible drinking means more than just limiting yourself to a certain number of drinks.
