NOTE: The deadline to waive the University’s UnitedHealthcare Plan has been extended to Friday, October 6, 2017. (The original deadline was Friday, September 22, 2017.)
Montclair State University requires all full-time undergraduate and graduate students (twelve (12) or more credits for undergraduate, nine (9) or more credits for graduate) to be enrolled in a health insurance plan.
University’s UnitedHealthcare Plan OR Your Private Plan
All full-time students must have healthcare coverage. You can either be covered by the University’s UnitedHealthcare plan or your own comparable personal plan.
NOTE: Full-time students are automatically enrolled in the University Health Plan through UnitedHealthcare.
All students must either:
- Waive the University’s UnitedHealthcare plan and use their own personal health care plan, OR
- Pay for the UnitedHealthcare plan.
Remember, you are automatically enrolled in the University’s UnitedHealthcare plan and billed for this coverage in your NEST Student Accounts statement.
You must waive the University’s UnitedHealthcare plan if you want to use your own personal health care plan. If you choose to waive the University’s UnitedHealthcare coverage you MUST provide proof of alternate health coverage by completing the online waiver prior to the deadline of Friday, October 6, 2017 (original deadline Friday, September 22, 2017.)
Want to Keep the UnitedHealthcare Plan?
Students that are automatically enrolled in the insurance plan will have access to an insurance card after the waiver/enrollment deadline of Friday, October 6, 2017.
Students that would like to be enrolled in the University’s health coverage and would like access to an insurance card before the deadline, should submit an online enrollment. Self-enrolling in the coverage will allow access to an insurance card for use within 24-48 hours.
Students enrolled in a comparable health insurance plan may be eligible to waive the student health insurance through UnitedHealthcare beginning Monday, August 1. If you already have health insurance coverage through your family, spouse or employer, you may opt to waive the University Healthcare plan.
- Go to the First Student website.
- Select "Waive Your School’s Health Insurance" on the left hand side of the page.
- Select "Waive Now."
- Enter your date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy) and your CWID to access the waiver form.
- Complete the Waiver Form with the required health insurance information. Do not leave any fields blank.
- Print your confirmation page. If you do not receive a confirmation, your waiver was not submitted successfully.
If your submitted waiver is APPROVED, the health insurance fee will be removed from your NEST account within three-to-five business days. However, you may deduct the health insurance fee when remitting a payment. If your waiver request has been DENIED, you must submit the requested information directly to First Risk Advisors by fax to 267-880-2301 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Insurance information provided to the Office of Student Accounts, the University Health Center or any other department at Montclair State University, does not constitute a waiver.
