Tobacco and Smoke Free Campus Next Steps

Important: Updates to the University Tobacco Policy.

In 2017, the University announced an initiative to be 100% tobacco-free by September 2020 and placed 11 designated smoking areas around campus, marked clearly with a pole and red banner. All members of the University and visitors are required to only use tobacco products within 10 feet of each designated location. Read the Full Tobacco-Free Policy and List of Restricted Products.

Changes in Fall 2018

The changes below are effective as of September 1, 2018.

Removed Locations:

  • Dinallo Heights location near Lot 23S
  • Maintenance Building near Sprague Field

Moved Location:

  • Sprague Library near the small service parking lot along University Promenade moved closer to Kasser Theatre and Red Hawk Deck.

List of Designated Smoking Areas

The following are a list of locations (and the projected removal dates) where members of the University and visitors are currently permitted to use non-restricted tobacco products:

The following locations will be removed January 1, 2019:

  • Russ Hall between Russ Hall and Chapin Hall, near the loading dock for Chapin Hall
  • Blanton Hall between Webster Hall and Bohn Hall

The following locations will be removed September 1, 2019:

  • Amphitheatre near Kasser Theater and Red Hawk Deck
  • Hawk Crossings between Falco and Accipiter

The following locations will be removed January 1, 2020:

  • Machuga Heights at the bottom of the stairs, in front of the center tower
  • The Village in the parking lot island between Williams Hall and Sinatra

The following locations will be removed September 1, 2020:

  • Student Center along Webster Road, near the Community Garden
  • Feliciano School of Business between the School of Business and Dickson Hall
  • Lot 60 near University Facilities and Clinical Services off of Clove Road

The University will be smoke and tobacco free beginning in September 2020.
